Many wildflower seeds do best when planted in the fall. Do you have a seed packet that tells you when to plant? If not, wait till after the threat of frost is past, then plant in warm soil. They normally don't need to be covered, but in order to prevent birds from getting them, I would cover lightly.
Plant hostas in early spring or early fall. It's still a bit cold right now.

The back wall of the house has gravel along it about 4 ft. wide because there is no gutter. I need to leave it clear reltively clear, but would like to put in a bit of green to soften the look. Hostas would be simple and attractive. I will plant them first and then add the large gravel with plenty of space to carch the rain. There isn' really any shade to speak of.
If there is no shade, then your hostas will not ever look happy. They are meant for shade, and even tolerate deep shade.

Hello.... I have an small area on the side of my screen house that I want to plant 3 small shrubs (flowering) I have deer in my yard often and they have cleaned out my hostas, rhododendron and azaleas. The length of the screen house is 12ft - height is 28ft. I don't want the plant to grow past the screen windows (28ft) Any advise you offer will be so appreciated. I included a photo as well where I am planting. The area gets some morning sun but mostly afternoon and late afternoon. Thank you so much for taking the time to advise. I live in NS, my zone is 3-6 (I think)
You did have some of their favorites! Here are some ideas for flowering shrubs and perennials:

I live in Carefree , AZ. We have light frost 2 or 3 times a winter. But, in the summer we can have several days above 110. If I put Hostas on a drip system, follow directions about the soil, (we have terrible soil, gritty type) where I plant them, will they survive living here? I can add better planting soil when planting. I do have a shady side of the house and would love to have some of the plants that I had out East around our house.
You are right on the very edge of where they can survive. With lots of care, and protection from summer sun, they should be able to grow for you. I think that your plan seems sound, and that with that care you will be able to grow them.

The plant is 3 years old and started coming up with very crinkled & distorted leaves. If this is a virus, should I destroy the plant? Some of my other hostas look like their leaves might also be started to curl. Please help!
Has the light changed in the area? If there is no shade here, I would provide just a little. This will help. Even though the lighter colored cultivars withstand brighter sun, they do benefit from the shade.
Other than that, simply provide the proper conditions for the plant, and it will continue on. They aren't too fussy, outside of their environmental conditions.

It probably gets too much sun, as a tree that shaded it was removed. I’d actually intended to post a picture of a blue cupped variety that s very crinkled. I think they both get too much sun now, but I don’t have another place to move them. Thanks for the answer.
What kind of soil should I get and what nutrients should I add...thank you very much
As long as the soil is rich and slightly acidic, then it doesn't matter the brand of nutrients that you use. In fact, adding a layer of compost beats out nutrients drastically. This will be the preferred way to feed them.

There are multiple holes in the bottom sections of the leaves on my hosta plant; the leaves are turning yellow and brown, and then they die.
Sounds like slugs have found your Hosta, though it could be other pests, too.
