My tree is being gagged by vines. This tree has been here since at least 1987. Been neglected but usually still produces blooms. I’m cleaning up because I have all this time now and notice it is being gagged. How far back can I trim it? Will it grow back if I just prune all that growth off of there? Please help!
Pruning the vine will likely make it come back much more aggressively. You will need to keep it pruned, constantly, and may need to apply an herbicide. Make sure not to neglect this task until it stops coming back.
As far as the health of the tree goes- it will recover once the vines die out of the tops. Just give it proper care.

We just planted a bottle brush tree about 2 weeks ago and have been watering it by hand every 2nd day per the instructions given to us by the nursery we purchased it from. The leaves are starting to turn yellow and fall off the tree. Are we watering too much/too little? It gets about 12 hours a sun a day.
Are you watering deeply when you water? It may not be getting enough since it is in sun 12 hours a day.

Generic name is Bottle brush tree (red bristles ). I am interested in a bush, not tree. Saw them as ornamental bushes on landscape yards in South Texas, but wondered if could grow in southern Michigan ? Don’t know my growing zone, but right now May 3 we are barely free of frost. Thanks.
You are in zone 6a and bottlebrush is hardy in zones 8b-11. You can still grow it in a large container and move it indoors in the winter, or an unheated garage

I have two bottle brush trees which displayed a vibrant bloom this spring. Those blooms are now faded into a darker burgundy shade. 1) Should I prune, removing these darkened blossoms? 2) Will the bottle brush continue to bloom this season if I prune? 3) Is this fading normal, or indicative of a condition I should remedy? (the other neighborhood bottle brushes are maintaining brilliance) Thank you!
Based on the faded blossoms, it looks as though your bottlebrush bloomed early. Try deadheading and you may see more blossoms this summer.

Can we cut back to just below these old pods or will it kill the tree?
You can, but there are a few things to note before you do. These articles will help you to prune and care for the shrub:

Afraid of over-watering or not enough! the leaves of the one we've had for some years now are yellowed after winter - though has bloomed. A new one bought this year - but given no details re watering by seller.
Here is a good article about bottlebrush plant care and watering.

This bottle brush bush/tree in my south-facing, South Wales garden has, I fear, been neglected by the previous owners. Apart from its shape, I don't believe they ever pruned it, with the result that it now has long, very bare branches with the new growth, leaves and flowers appearing at the tip of each branch. I'm not an experienced gardener, and read on your site that bottle brush bushes don't take kindly to hard pruning, that you should only take the ends off the branches. Is there anything I can do to improve both the form and the appearance of my bush/tree? Many thanks...

Thank you @BushDoctor but I have already read those articles, and they don't seem to address my particular problem, as shown by the photos?
