Q.Inherited Bottle Brush Bush/tree…needs Attention!

Zone CF37 3EB | Mitramonday added on June 26, 2020 | Answered

This bottle brush bush/tree in my south-facing, South Wales garden has, I fear, been neglected by the previous owners. Apart from its shape, I don’t believe they ever pruned it, with the result that it now has long, very bare branches with the new growth, leaves and flowers appearing at the tip of each branch. I’m not an experienced gardener, and read on your site that bottle brush bushes don’t take kindly to hard pruning, that you should only take the ends off the branches. Is there anything I can do to improve both the form and the appearance of my bush/tree? Many thanks…

Thank you @BushDoctor but I have already read those articles, and they don't seem to address my particular problem, as shown by the photos?
