I HAVE SEVERAL RAISED GARDEN BEDS. ONE IS FOR STRAWBERRIES AND ANOTHER FOR RASPBERRIES. CAN I PLANT TWO VARITIES OF STRAWBERRIES IN THE SAME BED? CAN I PLANT BLACK CAP RASPBERRIES AND REGULAR RASPBERRIES IN THE SAME RAISED BED?
Yes you can. Just make sure to prune the black raspberries differently than the red. The black grow from the previous years canes. They should be pruned up to 3 times a year. If they have long thick shoots or suckers, prune them way back. Those stems do not produce fruit. Once you harvest some fruit, prune those stems back about a 12 inches above a node. You will get more fruit in its place. Good luck
I got compost from the city waste management org. and put it on my garden spot- covered it. It has an ammonia odor. How do I know if it will hurt the plants I put in. I wanted to start with strawberrys.

We have a June bearing strawberry and an ever bearing strawberry raised bed. This is the beginning of the third season for these plants. The plants themselves look healthy however about 50% of the strawberries are not forming correctly. They are an odd acorn shape and all of the seeds are on the bottom tip of the berry. Any help would be appreciated.
There are 4 likely causes; Tarnished plant bug, frost injury, Boron deficiency, and poor pollination.

I have been growing strawberries for several years, the patch has grown bigger each year as I have helped the runners root into the ground and take off. This year I had thousands of white flowers and little green berries it looked like it was going to be a gorgeous crop of strawberries and then all of sudden they stopped growing and started to dry up. I now have thousands of little pink dried up berries that look as if they were in dry soil and hot sun with no water, which isn't the case. Sad my strawberries died, I usually have a green thumb, all my other berries and plants are doing well. Any strawberry experts out there who can give me some tips on what happened and what to do to clean out the bed for next year? I was going to plant strawberries on the entire other side of my yard as I actually use them for ground cover, now I am scared????? Thanks for any help!
It can be that the strawberries have stayed too long on the vine, insects, fungus issues or excess moisture levels.
