I love peonies but there is so much conflicting information on the internet about whether to do so or no t in our area. Advice also varies from "Plant in dappled shade" to "Must have full sun." It's a fairly expensive plant to landscape with in numbers so I am asking before I waste my time, money and kill a nice plant. Thank you for sharing your time and expertise with me. Cathy
Most peonies will need full sun for at least 6 hours per day. They can tolerate dappled shade for some of the day, but they won't flower as well this way and the stems will likely fall over with the weight of the flower heads. You are in their growing zone so I don't know why you couldn't grow them as long as you provide their cultural conditions.

I am new at gardening but have 2 beautiful pink peony plants on a rock bed in front of my house. Last year they had so many weeds and got terribly waterlogged, and also think they may have gotten that disease where they turn sort of black. I want to have them look beautiful this year so I bought plant grids to help them stay upright and need help getting rid of the weeds. Also is the rock bed a bad foundation or should they be in mulch ?
Preen should be safe but you have to get rid of the weeds first. Then mulch. Then apply the Preen. Rock mulch has advantages and disadvantages. Here is more:

No image, just a question.
There aren't many perennial options for your area, unfortunately. You can try dahlia for an annual option or as something to plant and dig up between seasons. They make wonderful companions to Peony.
Otherwise, as long as the perennial is smaller than the tree peony it shouldn't cause too much of an issue.

Broken limb from peony tree. Can they be planted as starts?
Larger limbs don't really have much of a chance. The tips of them might, but larger branches will take to long to root, and usually die before doing so.

Do the peonies need to have the spent blooms pinched?
Yes, you should cut the wilted blooms from the plant just below the blossom.

My peonies are about 7 yrs old, they look so beautiful but have no scent and open too much, what is the problem with my peonies?
Not all peonies have scent. The pink and white varieties seem to be most fragrant. Here are some tips on their care that might help with your peonies:

If your peony has already bloomed and faded, go ahead and trim back the plants to remove any blotchy leaves. Next spring, treat the peony with a fungicide to head off any fungal diseases.
