I moved into a home 2 years ago with a lilac in the yard. I noticed last year that one of the branches was dead and appeared to have some internal damage to it when removing. The yard had been completely neglected for years, so I cleaned it up a bit but didn't treat because I was unsure of what to treat it for. There were no signs of disease, mold or anything like that. While working in the area yesterday, I noticed another inner branch that was dead. When I pushed against it some to look it over, it basically snapped partially, being brittle. I removed the branch to discover white bugs had filled the inner parts of the bark. I'm not sure what kind of bug it is. What would you suggest I do to treat this and eliminate the problem? I have several new shoots coming up around the bottom of the plant, but a few more damaged braches developing. Thanks so much!
You can remove the dying, brittle growth and treat the lilac with neem oil. It is effective in treating many types of insect pests and is a fungucide as well. Here is more info: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/problems/pests/neem-oil-uses.htm
I have two lilac bushes and love to cut the blossoms to take inside. Does this hurt the tree/bush? Is it okay and if I cut some blossoms, how will this affect the bush?
Yes, it is fine to take cuttings from your shrub for bouquets. It will not harm the bush in any way.
Last year there was a late frost and they started to bud but did not. This year there are only a few flowers.
While the most likely cause for your lilacs not flowering is the cold, both last winter and this one, there are other possibilities you might want to consider: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/lilac/lilac-bush-not-blooming.htm
This spring I bought 2 lilac shrubs, white and lilac. The white shrub has produced flowers but hardly any leaves whilst the lilac has produced both flowers and leaves. They are planted at opposite sides of the garden. The only explanation is that I could have over watered the white one, but not to excess. Any advice on how to rectify the problem?
I suspect that the white one has a lack of potassium. I would give it a balanced fertilizer and some potash for potassium. This should help.
Our lilacs have been devoured every year since I planted them by the deer in the neighborhood. Last fall I finally got a fence high enough to keep them out! Now my lilacs are bushy and green--lovely, but not a flower on them! Do I need to wait a few more years? Sun is not a problem. I don't fertilize them, and they have good root space, no insects. Help!

I have two lilac bushes planted 25 ft apart, both in full sun, planted about 6 years ago. They were about 2 ft when planted and are now about 8 x 10. They have never had flowers. This year they have about 6 - 10 stunted flowers. I am in zone 6 and all the lilacs are in full bloom in my area. I added lime last fall and a couple of fertilizer stakes for flowering bushes. No luck. I have not pruned them except to remove broken branches, very few. Any ideas?

I planted a lilac bush last week, then it rained for 4 days straight. Now 5 days later, all the petals fell off the bush and it looks brownish. Can I save my lilac bush? Did the rain cause this? Should I try to plant it somewhere else? Thank you.
Since it was recently planted, it's most likely suffering from transplant shock. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/environmental/learn-how-to-avoid-and-repair-transplant-shock-in-plants.htm
