It appears to be the early signs of grass rust, but it could be a number of diseases. Depending on which one, your disease control of choice may not be effective.

Had turf laid in May. Over the last few weeks dark green patches with different texture grass that is growing at a rapid rate.
This is common when mushroom mycelium makes its way to the area. Mushrooms tend to break down organic matter at a rapid rate, which tends to make it available to the plant, much faster.
Likely, at some point, you will notice mushroom fruiting bodies come from these patches of healthy grass.
Ideally, you want your whole lawn to do this. Sometimes, taking plugs from these areas and moving them to less than attractive areas can help inoculate the soil and spread the mycelium around.

Areas of our lawn have been turning light green. What causes this? We do pay for lawn care. I've been wondering if this is the product of too much nitrogen in the soil. thx in advance!
There are a few causes for this. In most cases, this is from patches of cool season grasses growing faster than other grasses in the area when the weather becomes just right for it.
You are in the "transition zone" for grasses. This means that it is necessary to seed your lawn with a mix of warm and cool season grasses. When it isn't mixed, thoroughly, it can cause patches of quick growing grasses during this time.
Sometimes, reseeding with cool season grasses can help the patchiness, but it may take until next year to see results from this.
These articles will help you to choose cool and warm season grasses:
