This year my hydrangeas were outstanding and it was the color I asked my daughter if she did not think they were the most beautiful they had ever been she ans mom it is the color it is more vivid or seemingly so. I fool with the acid and lime products and I am wondering if this has some effect. I have read that you can change the color but not the intensity. do you have an ans for this? Thanks abaird

Hello! I live in the mid Atlantic region of the U.S. and several years ago I planted hydrangea bushes down the side of my porch. They get morning shade and afternoon sun. They bloomed the first and maybe second year I had them, but for the past few years I have not got any blooms. Beautiful green foliage, but no blooms. I do not cut them back. Also, I notice when we have warm days in the late winter/ early spring I notice new buds on the tips of the wood, then it will get cold again and frost, therefore killing the new buds. Can you help me figure out what to do?? Thanks!!
These plants much prefer acid soil with a ph of about 4. They will do well in shade, but do not like frost at all. Protect them on cold nights with fleece.
Can I use dissolved aluminum sulfate in water and pour it right on the blooms before they fully blossom? I've heard people do it and it really changes the color to a deeper blue than just putting it around the drip line.

Hello A couple of years ago I bought a Hydrangea seemanii to grow on a north-facing wall. It has established well, but I'd be glad of some advice on how to train it to cover the wall. It has one strong main shoot: if I remove the tip, will this encourage it to spread out? If I pull some of it away from the wall (it is strongly attached by aerial roots) and move them to where I want them to go, will they survive and re-root? Many thanks, Sally
The growth of these plants does not normally require any pruning. Prune only to confine them to their designated area. Cut them back a bit if they are growing on a wall, to encourage them to fully cover the wall without projecting too far out from the wall.
