I am interested in growing garlic in a container but do not know if our winters are too cold for that. Is it safe in zone seven? Also where do you place the container after it is prepared with the garlic? Thank you so much. I just joined your newsletter. Lionel
Zone 7 is on the warmer end for garlic! With that being, said, you will want to get you garlic in the ground immediately. This is usually planted by October 15 in zone 7. Here is an article for more information:

I planted my garlic on 10/28 and dug them up on 7/11 a year later, all the bulbs were fine, good size, well formed. I let them dry for 14 days then cleaned them, they were still all very good. I then stored them in my climate controlled basement in mesh bags, they get good air circulation. Since storing them in early August I noticed approx. 50% of them have dried out (you can compress each whole bulb between thumb & forefinger) Its like the cloves have dried out and disappeared, the ones that still have cloves, the cloves are off color, brownish like. This is the 6th year I have grown garlic and is the first year I have had this problem. Any ideas as to what the problem is ? Thanks.
The humidity may have been too low or they became infected. These articles should help for next year:

I need to know how garlic is propagated, is it by seeds or by bulb and how to order for the seeds/bulbs.
Garlic is usually grown from cloves. You can get them at a garden center or by ordering from catalogs. Grocery store bulbs are often treated so as not to sprout. These articles should help:

are garlic infected with Nematodes ok to use to make garlic powder?
If they are not squishy. I would imagine that the garlic has become quite unusable once heavily infected, though. It couldn't harm you, but it would be very undesirable.
Here is an article that will help you to deal with this, and other common issues that arise when cultivating garlic:

3 1/2" apart 2 1/2 " deep'. I used Miracle Grow garden dirt and peat moss, they have been growing on a table in front of the wi ndow and have grown up 10 to 14 '' tall . Now some of the long leaves are drooping over, every thing is green . I used a moistur e meter and it says dry, moist ,wet , mine is moist but close to wet . I water every 2 weeks , it stays pretty moist. I take the water reading near the bottom of the pot. Should I remix my dirt with less peat moss. I mixed it about 50/50 or just water less and see
You should only water once the soil is very dry down to about 3 inches or so. Garlic will not appreciate soils that stay moist, consistently. Make sure that all extra water is allowed to leave the container, freely, and that it never sits in standing water.

I want to start from the seed in the flower head - not using the cloves
Unfortunately, they make topsets, or little bulbs, where seed would normally be. Whether you choose to use a topset bulb, or one from the base, it will be necessary to use one or the other.
Topsets will, only, be produced on the mature inner bulbs. Smaller outside corms will take a few years to reproduce.

Can comfry be used for all of the garden as a fertilizer? Can that eliminate the use of lime?
Beans need to be planted far away from garlic, according to the article below. I would plant it as far away as feasible in your garden. You can use comfrey fertilizer on all your plants and see how they perform as to whether they need additional fertilizer.
