I've been growing garlic in Western Washington for many years and with great success. This year we moved to Mesquite, NV. I planted later than usual, on Dec. 15, in a raised bed. They started sprouting as new plants after about a month. They've been watered regularity. My problem is they never sprouted their seed stems and the leaves are brown and dying. I've pulled up a few and they all appear to have not separated into cloves and they look more like onions bulbs. Any advice for this coming year new plantings? Also, would I be able to replant the single bulbs (and have them split into the cloves) since I don't have the single cloves from this crop?
Garlic requires at least 30 nights of the temperature being under 50 degrees F for the cloves to separate properly. You may need to look into other varieties that tolerate the Nevada heat better.

Looking for a Hardneck Variety of Garlic for Zone 6B. I want what I believe is Heirloom, which is to say the harvested bulbs could be used to produce the exact same Garlic variety when re-planted. It is my understanding that some varieties may be crosses or hybrids and will not necessarily re-grow the same variety. I am interested in Chesnok Red but can not determine if it is an heirloom. German-Extra hardy and Spanish Roja seem to suggest they are heirloom.
You have many to choose from! Here are some articles on some of the most common heirloom cultivars available:

Just harvested some garlic I planted in my garden when the plant wilted and died, and when I peeled the head apart to check it(first time growing garlic), the cloves themselves were pink-streaked? It wasn't pink garlic that I planted, and I planted it in a mix of potting soil and peat on top of heavy clay soil. Anyone have any idea what exactly this means for my garlic growing?
This can happen for a few reasons. Most often, this is due to there being too much fertilizer in the soil close to harvest time. It can happen when the soil is too acidic as well. (Peat is highly acidic) In some cases, some types of rot will cause this, as in the case of contact with sulfur reducing bacteria. Wet soils will be to blame in that case.
