What is a good fungicide brand to use on flowering red dogwood trees?
Propiconazole is a chemical used to treat dogwood anthracnose disease. One trade name is Bonide Infuse. Step one is to make sure your diagnosis is correct. The right chemical on the wrong disease won't help. Your county extension service offers help with disease diagnosis. Please follow all instructions on the chemical inner label.
Hi, I am thinking of planting a flowering dogwood tree near the walkway to our front door. But I'm getting worried that the bottom of the canopy will be too low as the tree grows to maturity and won't allow for easily walking underneath. Would this be better off in a more open space without the walkway underneath? Or do you think it can be pruned effectively to provide the walkway underneath? Thanks! Denise
Dogwoods are known for being, relatively, short trees. They will eventually get tall enough to have a walkway under, but that could take years. If anything, I would choose a tree that gets taller quicker, or plant them a little further away from the walk, and over time, as they thicken up, it will likely hover over the walkway as the tree matures.
The spot I have in mind is a garden bed between the walkway and the house. Since I can't move that spot further from the walkway, can you recommend a tree that would grow taller quicker? Especially a pretty flowering variety? Zone 7.

I would suggest growing in a morning sun-afternoon partial shade location in your zone 7 garden.
There's no better way to describe the way the petals on our dogwood tree have bloomed but, "wrinkly." They look like they need to be ironed. Weird, right?
Oh my gosh! Thank you very much!
This is actually a Magnolia.
Your flowers look normal and quite pretty.

We have a 4 year old dogwood that has done fine until this year.It sprouted out new growth and leaves as usual at the end of March - first of April. About 2 weeks ago I noticed that all the new growth died. The little leaves shriveled and it looks like it is dying. There is still green under the bark and it feels flexible. But no new life.?????
There are several diseases that dogwoods are susceptible to. See if you can identify one and locate the appropriate treatment. Examining the fallen leaves may give clues. Also look for insect entry holes in the bark.

I Live in zone 5b. I bought a small dogwood tree from Lowes. It is growing well and after 4 yrs it produced flowers. For 2 springs now it produces flowers. The problem is it produces only 2 petals. At her first year of flowering, i thought it was just because it was young but this year all the flowers have only 2 petals. What is the matter with my tree, is it a bad tree?
Plant mutants exist all throughout the world. Sometimes this can happen without warrant. Just enjoy the tree, and care for it, as if it were normal. This will be a fine conversation piece one day.
