I recently bought these and planted them in containers with John Innes No 3 Some of the leaves are changing colour? Please help, I'm a complete newbie to the garden
There are a few reasons hydrangea leaves turn purple, which are all covered in this article: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/hydrangea-leaves-turn-purple.htm
My best guess is that the plants are suffering from a phosphorous deficiency, which isn't a big deal. You can apply some phosphorous fertilizer and test your soil's pH (low pH is often the cause of phosphorous deficiency). There's more information about how to do this in the article I posted above.
Can hydrangea be grown in the house?
Not usually successfully for more than a few weeks or a couple months.
I have 2 potted hydrangeas. The old flowers have died and new flowers are going below the old stem. Should I cut the old stem?,and if should cut the old stem, exactly where should I make the cut?
Just remove the spent flower at this point in the growing season.

Please can you help! I have a very unwell Hydreangea, it lives in a pot and I transferred it to a bigger pot as it got root bound it was growing so well until I noticed it had become very water logged so I put some bigger holes in the bottom of the pot for the water to drain away. My problem is that now after it had dried out it has gone all limp and flopped. I have kept watering it again but it seems not to be doing anything other than looking very sorry for itself. Should I continue to water or leave it or should I cut it all down and hope it comes up again. It is such a shame as it was growing so perfectly well. Please can you help me!Kay
A common issue with Hibiscus, here is an article that addresses the most common reasons for yellowing leaves.
I have emailed you yesterday regarding my poorly hydrangea and now have some pictures that might help you to resolve my problem. I re-potted it as it had outgrown its pot but since doing that I noticed after a while that it had become water logged so I put some more wholes in the pot to help it drain off. I did not water it for a week as I thought it must be wet enough but have watered it now as it is wilting. I really don't know what to do and would be so unhappy if I lost it. I hope you can help with some advice.
It is best to check the soil, instead of watering on a schedule.
Generally potted plants will need to be watered daily, but make sure you check the soil and that it is draining properly.
You can 'lift' the pot off of the ground to aid in drainage. Garden centers sell pot feet to set your pot on.

For some reason I can't grow hydrangeas in pots. I have one now that has been blooming beautifully but new growth leaves are yellow with green veins and then die. Another younger plant has never bloomed but has done the same and is nearly dead. I keep them gently moist, gave them some fertilizer, and even some Epsom salts when I saw the yellowing leaves. but nothing has availed. what in the world am I doing wrong. I have lost several hydrangeas this way. Help! Karen

I took cuttings of my hydrangea plants back in early August. I've put them in little pots and into a see-through container and have kept them in my yard, but out of full sun. I'm wondering, what is my next step? I haven't checked to see if they have roots, but do I bring the inside the house for the winter? And keep them in the see-thru container? Thanks Rhonda
Personally, I like to mix a a tablespoon of honey, and an aspirin tab into a gallon container, and use this as rooting hormone to apply to the soil through watering. Keep the soil moist, not wet, and do not let it dry out completely until they are rooted. They will do just fine indoors over the winter in a semi brightly lit area.
