Why does my Chinese lantern stay green? My Chinese lantern does not go to the orange color.
I am not sure why this would be. One possibility is that they are not ripening, and thus not turning orange. This could happen if they don't get enough light, or if the temperatures turn colder before they ripen- much like green tomatoes at the end of the growing season.
I would like to find out why my Chinese Lantern has a white creamy substance on the stems. Could you tell me what this is and how do I get rid of this?
This is likely due to an infestation of Mealybug.
You can treat the plant with Neem Oil.

Is this plant suitable for an indoor, all year round plant? Thanks in advance.
No, they would not be suitable to grown indoors.

I have been trying to grow Japanese lanterns for years now. I live in zone 7 [Long Island] and face north. I tried seed from plants dried as well as fresh. Seed packets from various seed manufactures. And they either don't grow at all or they come up as something else. So far this year I have the leaves growing about a foot tall. No lanterns yet. They are in a pot on my deck. What can I do? Thank you, Joan Prato

What are the nutritional needs of Chinese Laterns. Have a grower wanting to apply Micro Nutrients and more if needed.
Usually, a slow release fertilizer in spring, and a well balanced fertilizer in fall will just about do it. Adding micros wouldn't hurt, but it won't be fully necessary either, unless they are showing signs of specific deficiencies. Could someone help me ID these bugs and any possible way to get rid of them? I have wiped down the leaves a couple times and repotted in new soil/pot but they have come back. None of my other plants around it seem to be infested. Thank you!
They don't seem to be doing any damage. Of those that you listed, I think they may be Snow Fleas.
I'll make a few guess but if, on closer inspection, there is no match, repost with a close-up of the insect and what plants you find it on. Is it doing any damage? Black aphids, fungal gnats, spider mites and a harmless springtail called a snow flea are common.
