my Chinese Lantern in pot...
You can prune out dead or dying foliage. That is all that is really necessary. Unless you want to prune the roots to prevent having to repot. Here is more on their care:

In previous years my Chilean lantern tree has had numerous red lanterns as you'd expect. This year however, nearly all the lanterns are green. They are gradually opening to reveal the seeds so apart from the colour are behaving normally. Why are they green ? And will this continue year on year? I can't find anything online with regard to this!
This can have a few causes. The first thing to do will be to test the soil for nutrient deficiencies and pH swings. These articles will help:

These need to be fertilized, at least, twice per year. Here is an article that will help you to care for them:

Have some potted out door Chinese Latern plants and I need to bring them in before the frost and winter gets here in the North East New England. If I bring the pots into my basement so I have to do anything special during the winter storage months? Do I have to feed and water the plants? Covered over or uncovered. Any information on indoor winter care is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Been in a large pot outside for the winter. Lost most of its leaves. Is it dying?
It normally is hardy in your area so it should come back. If not, they usually regrow from seed. Did you collect your lanterns or let them fade in the container garden? The lanterns each contain one seed. Sometimes the birds get them first. If growing from seed, it will come up a little later. It won't germinate till the weather warms up. Here is more:
