Over the winter my plant was in a room that the temp dropped to about 50 degrees. A few of the leaves turned black and fell off. I moved it to the kitchen and I water it about every 2 weeks and it drains well but,I am still losing leaves -these leaves are yellow in color. Will this plant bounce back in the summer months?

some ofleaf tips & edges turning bright yellow,am I missing minerals in the soil? It has recently had spider mites but washed & put outside for a few warm overcast days and was wbatered after soil dried as usual. Otherwise healthy, lives in sunny window 45 degree lat. Fed schultz A/P 3 times in past 2 months.
Make sure you have your plant in a medium to bright light.
A Schefflera needs only a light fertilizer, once a year.

What would make a schefflera lose its leaves?
Improper lighting, watering, fertilizing and pests and disease can all cause leaf drop.

I recently inherited a potted schefflera -- its in a pot in a sunny window, north facing, so pretty much no direct light. I'm being careful about watering, because the pot doesn't drain. Bur the leaves are steadily turning brown and falling, off is if burning from exposure and lack of water. It has new growth coming, I'm really at a loss!

Poor drainage and soil that does not drain will result in root rot.
I suspect that is the issue with your plant.
Repot in a container that has drainage and use a good commercial potting mix.
Regarding mealybug infested Scheflerra, the article on your site says: "Then, using a solution of one part alcohol to three parts water with some dish soap (without bleach) mixed in, wash down the entire plant. Let the plant sit for a few days and repeat the process." What kind of alcohol should I use? rubbing alcohol?
Yes, rubbing alcohol.
Personally I would take this mixture and apply with the Q tip directly to the Mealybugs. Touch each one and make sure it's soaked. This is usually effective unless the plant is really covered with a large infestation.
Also, remember to move the infected plant away from any other plants to prevent the spread.
I followed the directions, using the rooting hormone, light but no sun, but within a few days the leaves all turn brown and fall off. What can I do to have it work? Thank you.
Not every cutting will root successfully. It's best to take several cuttings to help your odds.
