The last week I have noticed little white spots on the leaves of my rose bushes. The white spots eventually turned into holes. I originally thought it was the water dripping on them from our neighbor's air conditioner. So I moved them and removed the damaged leaves. They were free and clear of the spots. This morning I woke to find more leaves with spots. Could this be a bug of some kind or and I looking at a fungus?
I notice that the white spots are on the stem too. Are these white spots raised?
Where can I find an Ocean rose bush?
I do not know of any rosebushes that have the name of just Ocean. You can go to the link I am providing here to look at roses that have Ocean in their names, hopefully this will help you: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/plants.php?searchNmTyp=5&searchNm=Ocean&rid=4231&sbSearch=SEARCH&tab=1
Why are the leaves yellowing?
There are different reasons why the leaves may be yellowing on your rosebush, many times it is either due to over watering or can be a very natural thing as the rosebush grows new foliage that shadows some old foliage that then is allowed to die back and fall off. Check out this article link on this subject as well: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/roses/yellowing-rose-leaves.htm
Summer 2014 I planted three rose bushes, following all the instructions. That first year I seem to recall that they flowered OK, but not a lot, as I assumed they were new. Last year they produced lots of buds, but the buds turned brown and never flowered. I pruned the roses well and this year they are large, strong and again producing plenty of large buds. But, same again, the beautiful promising large buds just turn brown - they look 'crispy', as though they are dead and dried, but in fact they are 'wet' inside. The stem below the bud has also turned brown - though the bushes are lovely and green. I live in Cardiff, so we have seen plenty of rain - but other gardens I pass all have lovely blooming roses. Any help anyone can offer I would be very grateful (the bushes were planted in memory of my mum so I will do anything I can to help them bloom.) Many thanks, lesley
Hi Lesley, so sorry to hear this is happening to your rosebushes blooms.... If you had not mentioned that you get plenty of rain, I would have thought you might have a thrips problem. However, instead I do believe you are seeing a classic case of Rose Balling. I have this rose and some of the flowers open just fine and others open incomplete like the photos attached. I have also noticed that some of the leaves start growing with some wrinkles. Thank you in advance for your help.
It could be a genetics thing with those particular canes. If you prune them off and those same canes produce the same type of blooms, I would prune the problem canes completely out and other new canes should emerge that will hopefully produce the better buds and blooms. It can also be a insect problem, such as thrips. They make small holes into the buds and mess up the bloom inside before it has a chance to bloom nicely. A systemic insecticide will get after the thrips.
My rose flowers nowadays open too much. I mean the centre of the rose is exposed totally with petals opening till convex upwards. Earlier it was not the case. Yet I am having really big roses but their appearance doesn't please eyes anymore. I want to tell you diet of my roses. I used to feed cow dung manure only. Now I give them banana peels, Epsom salt and seaweed liquid fertilizer apart from cow dung. They are healthy but open too much.
The hotter it gets the more quickly the rose blooms will open. Some will actually be buds during the day and open up over night on hot nights and be pretty much done by mid morning. It sounds like you are feeding them just fine. Keep them watered and when the temperature cools the blooms should begin lasting longer again.
I purchased 10 roses from a reputable rose grower and the first flush of roses were beautiful but now something is stripping the leaves off of the lower stems. I have looked for caterpillars but have found none. The top leaves are quite healthy and I treat routinely with Rose Clear as precautions but my lovely rose garden is no more. Please advise. I have cut 2 of them back to 4" from ground hoping they will recover.
This can be a sign that the rosebush is under heat stress and pruning them real hard is not the thing to do. Pruning them back hard while already stressed out just doubles the stress. It is okay to prune back the dead or done blooms and growth. Water all of them with some water that has both a root stimulator and a product called Super Thrive mixed into the same water. Water them with this mix the next 4 to 5 times they need watering. Once the temperatures outside cool down a bit, the foliage should return just fine.
