Basically, my workplace decided to put me (the receptionist) in charge of watering and taking care of the roses and other plants out front. While I enjoy this, it's a totally new experience for me. We just moved into our newly built and landscaped business about three weeks ago. Unfortunately I began to see these white spots and holes develop. I know this would typically be attributed to rose slugs, but I haven't seen any when inspecting the undersides of the leaves. Is there another explanation for this? I also noted that it is only the plants on the front of the building that are affected. These are in the shade all morning and part of the afternoon while the unaffected plants are in full sun most of the day. Thank you for your time on this!
It is most likely rose slugs or Japanese beetles according to this extension article:
Partial stool dead, growing on some, want to transplant new location. Should I cut off dead part.
Not sure what part you are referring to as the stool, but yes, dead or damaged stems can be cut back after replanting the shrub.
Hi! We just bought a 1950 home a year ago. There has been deferred gardening for about eight years. I have a vintage rose bush growing in the back yard but it is has a least four weed trees growing through the middle of it. Is there anyway that I can save the rose but get rid of the trees? The same thing is happening in an old bush. Thank you for any advise you can give me. The trunks of these trees are deep and some bigger than an inch around...
I would carefully cut the weed trees out bit by bit and cut them off level with the ground. If you can without touching the rose bush, paint weed killer onto the cut. I wouldn't try to dig the roots up because you will disturb the rose's roots. If the weed trees keep trying to grow back just keep cutting them level to the ground and eventually they should stop.

Thank you very much
I would let them do their thing and bloom. You could add some super thrive to the water you water them with to help them deal with any shock or stress though. It is a fine vitamin tonic type product that is available at most garden centers and wal-mart.
We have a substantial sized growth of white heritage roses that my mother nurtured. We wish to move them to our house (very nearby)and sustain them in the new location. Full shade? partial shade? time of the year? method(s) and cautions?
Roses need a sunny location with well-drained, fertile soil. Here are tips for transplanting roses:

-should I cut them back in their 1st year ?
Thank you
I would leave them alone in their first year and allow them to get stronger.
I planted these in July. I had some new soil so I waited about 2 weeks. I mixed my old and new soil together then I planted these. All of a sudden they look like they're dying. I watered them because we have had so much heat and humidity. Can you help ? I may have sent duplicate pictures Let me know cause if I didn't send the right ones, I will. Thanks Kathi Kaegi kkaegi@centurytel.net
Anything you plant in midsummer needs to be kept well watered since it's usually the hotest time of the year. I didn't get the photos, so not sure what is going on.
Here is a fact sheet about OSO Easy roses, so you can see the care required.
