Q.Weed trees among old rose bush and bushes
Hi! We just bought a 1950 home a year ago. There has been deferred gardening for about eight years. I have a vintage rose bush growing in the back yard but it is has a least four weed trees growing through the middle of it. Is there anyway that I can save the rose but get rid of the trees? The same thing is happening in an old bush. Thank you for any advise you can give me. The trunks of these trees are deep and some bigger than an inch around…

I would carefully cut the weed trees out bit by bit and cut them off level with the ground. If you can without touching the rose bush, paint weed killer onto the cut. I wouldn't try to dig the roots up because you will disturb the rose's roots. If the weed trees keep trying to grow back just keep cutting them level to the ground and eventually they should stop.
