Unfortunately, saving a plant with root rot is unlikely, especially if the disease has progressed. It sounds like you should start over with a fresh, new plant, as attempting to save your current plant will probably just be an exercise in frustration. Be sure the new plant is in a pot with a drainage hole.

I'm sorry that I don't know the answer to your question about orchids; however, I would be wary of using a diseased plant for this purpose.

The good news is that your plant still seems to be alive given that it has a green cast on the inside of the stems. Tell me more about the plant. Is the soil dry to the touch or moist? How often do you water it? If the soil is dry, then this might just be a hydration issue where it needs water.

Was there any powdery mildew on the leaves? This is a common fungus that afflicts rosemary plants and would cause it to dry up. If you have seen the powdery mildew, then a fungicide application might be order.

Given that you only have space 2 feet wide to work with, I would opt for a Blue Spires Rosemary which grows 2-3 feet wide. Spring or fall is a good time to plant rosemary.

I have linked to an article below which discusses all the possible reasons for a rosemary turning brown. There is a strong possibility this is root rot. I would verify that your plastic pot has drainage and recommend that you only water until the top 2 inches of soil is dry to the touch. In the meantime, you may want to consider starting a new crop of rosemary to ensure the continuation of a rosemary harvest.

Very high temperatures and lack of moisture or humidity can also be the issue.
Misting the plants in-between watering can be beneficial.
