Q.is rosemary plant dead

des added on March 13, 2015 | Answered

My rosemary plant survived the winter indoors in a clay pot but suddenly looks sickly. The leaves seem dry, but I broke a stem in half and it is still green. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. I am here in Chicago, zone 5. Do you have any thoughts?

The good news is that your plant still seems to be alive given that it has a green cast on the inside of the stems. Tell me more about the plant. Is the soil dry to the touch or moist? How often do you water it? If the soil is dry, then this might just be a hydration issue where it needs water.

Was there any powdery mildew on the leaves? This is a common fungus that afflicts rosemary plants and would cause it to dry up. If you have seen the powdery mildew, then a fungicide application might be order.
