trying to find best location to plant
The best location will be out in the sun, and away from trees. If this cannot be done, you can try growing them in container:

Also. Instructions said not to transplant into the ground or bigger pot until between October-March, however plant getting quite large in its current pot. Can you advise
I would only cut them if they are dead or dying. You can keep the flowers cut for the first year, as well.

I recently bought a rhubarb plant in a pot. It's well fed and watered, and already had a few thin stalks and leaves on it. I've read that I shouldn't harvest these, although they are too thin to do anything with anyway. Should I just leave the stalks and leaves in place for now, or cut them back to encourage new growth. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Martin Henstock
I would leave any growth unless it is dead. It will fare better with leaving the leaves to process sunlight. This article will help:

I have been told that rhubarb can't be picked the whole year
There are a few things to know about harvesting rhubarb, but this article will go over what you need to know about it:

I live in northern Connecticut and just planted the rhubarb a year ago. It has never been harvested but I lost a few plants over last winter.
No, you will want to stop picking several weeks before winter weather. This will give the plant a chance to store energy for the winter. These articles will help:

A first year plant, nothing harvested, most of the leaves and stalks are lying flat (due to weather?) - what should I do?
Since you won't be using this year's stalks, it's okay to go ahead and cut the plant all the way back. You may want to mulch over the remaining crown for winter protection. Use gloves when handling the leaves. Here are some tips:
