I checked out your website of the pros and cons of a red pointe maple tree. Mine is 4 yrs old. I pulled back the soil and found several crossovers. My neighbor said I should cut the root on top of the crossover. I understand you have no liability in your response but can you give me some advice as whether I should cut a root? I attached a few pictures.
If you have never done anything like this before, or are not familiar with root pruning, I would not attempt this. If you are well versed, and you are ok with the possibility of losing the tree to infection, then you can attempt to do so.
My red maple has branches dying and a large canker on the north side. How do I treat this? Will my tree dye? Also, my canadian cherry has limbs dye every year and I cut them off. it started as a triangle shape and is now the shape of a Y. It's awful. Can you help? Thank you, Tonya Montgomery
It seems that your soil is bacterial. Perhaps the area remains too wet without an adequate period to dry out. You can try using fungicides, but prevention is often the best way forward. Feeding the soil can help, after a soil test reveals what is lacking.

Treating microbes with other microbes will be an option. This is the option that I prefer. Here are some articles that will help:

My Red Maple did not lose the leaves in the fall I didn’t worry until now in the spring/summer it still has the dead leaves and it has only grown huge leaves in one part of the tree. The tree has been planted and fine for 5 years before this.
This article will help you understand why this happens:

I live in Denver Colorado, and my autumn blaze Maple looks pretty sad. The leaves are light green, the tree isn’t growing, the branches are brittle, and the bark is flaking off in large pieces. I’ve been told by some tree people that my trees need iron. What is the best way to get iron into a tree? I’d prefer to do this from home rather than hire a professional service if possible.

The tree may have tree borers which are very hard to treat. Here is more information below. I would remove any insulation you have on the tree. Also, here is information about rodents chewing bark.
