There are several Poplar trees behind my house and the neighbors. My neighbor had to cut down one tree, as it just died and lost all its bark. Now there is another one in my backyard that has done the same. The branches are dead and the whole tree has nothing. What is causing this to happen, as I am afraid it will happen to all of them? Is it an insect causing this and, if so, how do we stop it? I look forward to hearing from you. thanks, Debbie
Do you know the age of the Poplar Trees?
The Poplar Tree is not a long living tree. 50 years for a healthy tree, but environmental issues, insects or disease can shorten the lifespan.
The chances are all the trees in you area were planted at the same time, so if they are all showing the same signs it most certainly could be age.
People plant Poplars because they are fast growing, but it does not have the long lifespan as I mentioned.
Of coarse inspect the trees for signs of insect or disease.
Also, if you see multiple trees with issues it could be worth having a professional arborist look at the trees.
You could also check with your local county extension office to see if any other homeowners have reported tree death issues.

I had to remove several unhealthy poplar trees from my front yard this spring. The stumps were ground out also. Now I have hundreds of suckers sprouting up everywhere. I can't keep up with their growth. What to do?
Cut the suckers and paint the fresh cuts with undiluted Round-up. This will get into the remaining root system and kill the roots. It may take a month or so, but it will work.
Killing tree stumps with salt and the effect the salt would have on newly planted trees close by. I have several hybrid poplar trees in my front yard that I wish to cut down and want to be sure rooting system is killed. I think the salt method may work but am worried that it will kill off other trees that I wish to keep as well as two newly planted maples. Can you help with this?

I'm told Poplar trees are alien in South Africa. I live in a complex with residents who want to remove the tree because it's alien. Is it? If so, does that provide sufficient reason for removal? I think they want it taken away because it obstructs the sum!!
Here is an article about Poplar Trees.

Do poplar trees lose their leaves year round? We're overwhelmed with so many leaves that we have to rake every day since the lawn is covered completely. Is this just a fall situation or do they lose leaves year round?!!
Poplars should only lose their leaves in fall. If a poplar loses its leaves in the spring or summer, it is most likely sick or is experiencing difficult environmental conditions such as a drought.
