Poplar Trees in South Africa

Question

I’m told Poplar trees are alien in South Africa. I live in a complex with residents who want to remove the tree because it’s alien.
Is it? If so, does that provide sufficient reason for removal?
I think they want it taken away because it obstructs the sum!!
