A large pecan tree in our front yard was hit by a car and has bark damage about 1 ft wide and 3 ft long. What should we do to protect the tree? It is more than 50 years old and we don't want to lose it. Thanks.

I have inherited my parents' Georgia property and their four huge pecan trees that were planted in the 1950s. Though they appear healthy, nothing has been "done" to them in more than 25 years, and if they are producing at all, it isn't much. I'd like to try for a crop - any suggestions beyond fertilization?
Pecan Trees do need regular fertilizing.
Lack of lime, nitrogen fertilizer and zinc are common limiting factors in nut production.
A soil test is a good idea since you are starting with little knowledge of the tree care.
Generally you would apply fertilizer in March on mature trees.

My pecan has black spot fungus. The pecans turn black and don't mature. What can I do or spray them with?
This is likely a Pecan scab disease.
Treatment would be difficult on your own and may require application of fungicide by a professional.

Can you raise a pecan tree from a pecan nut that had the shoot already coming out of the nut when I put it in a pot? And, the stem is about 10 inches high now but the leaves are very big wide and kind of tear drop shaped, not long and narrow like a mature pecan leaf? Am I actually growing a pecan tree or a weed in my pot?
There would certainly be no harm in trying!
Pot up the new seedling and see if it continues to grown.
