Pecan tree also had tons of nuts, black still in hull were no good
The university references mentioned defoliation as a disease symptom but not "whole fronds." This guide is comprehensive and should help narrow it down.
I have a 24 yr. old Pecan Tree that has never had the first pecan on it. We planted a new one on either side of it, but still no pecans! What's wrong... is it something I didn't do? It's dark outside and I can't get a photo. Confused, Becky in Texas
If this is a pecan grown from seed, then it is just now coming into flowering age! Some pecans will take even longer to see the first flower.
If this is a grafted specimen that you have planted from an established tree, then it could be, either, the luck of the draw, or poor soil nutrition.

The large tree has a mate,(about 15 ft. from the large tree) but the smaller tree, also 20 years old, doesn't produce nuts at all. Both trees drop hundreds and hundreds of flowers in the spring and squirrels plant the empty nuts all over the yard. What is lacking causing this deficit?
Insect and disease damage is most often the reason nuts don't fill. Nut trees need a regular fertilizing schedule and insect and disease management. These articles should help. You may want to contact your local extension agent for publications pertinent to Ohio.
