We planted a red oak tree 3 years ago. The last 2 summers, we didn't think it would make it through the summer because the leaf tips started turning black and then the whole tree seemed to get brown crinkled leaves and looked like it died. What is the solution to this problem?
Most likely a fungus disease has infected your tree.

Several years ago I bought a tree called a cork bark tree. It had small leaves, not needles, and the trunk and branches had a scale-like brown texture. The tree was small, less than 3 feet, and grew very slow. Unfortunately, I lost it several years ago in a particularly hot summer. I have looked and asked about this tree for several years but no one knows what I am talking about. Can you help?
I am not certain but I believe you are referring to a cork oak tree. Here is a link for your confirmation:

Happy gardening!
The harsh summer seemed to have dried my oak out but now I notice that all the leaves are brown and I can't get it to push out new leaves no matter how much I water it. I have one 20 feet away that has one year on it and it has leaves with no watering. Something is up. Do I dig it up? Do I buy fertilizer or trim it up? The tips of it are dry but I can still bend some of the branches. It is only about 11 ft tall, second year in the ground. The smaller one was mowed over but still lived but has been in the ground at least a year longer so the roots are probably deeper. I know they are really hard to kill, so what's up?
The tree may have dropped leaves or needed to reserve it's energy in the heat.
Is the soil draining to much so the roots can't take up the water?
Could the soil be holding water and the roots sitting in soggy water? This can cause root rot.
You will need to determine the soil condition and moisture level, this is likely the issue.
Disease or insects should also be inspected for on the plants.
The city has planted two trees by the sidewalk that I cannot identify. I have searched the web with no luck. It has green acorns, which today have turned a light yellow, growing in clusters and my understanding is that only oak trees have acorns. The trees are 3 yrs. old and only about 6' tall. The leaves have pointy tips and the veins are not symmetrical. Please help.

I've seen several different varieties of oak trees in the neighborhood I moved into and I can identify a pin oak and it holds its leaves all winter, which to me is beneficial. However, I have seen some trees which shed their leaves this time of year, which I do not like.
Some Oak trees will drop a few leaves in the fall, but most drop their leaves in the spring right before the new leaves emerge.

I think it is from a Northwest Oak tree. Some of the leaves on the ground had round ball things that were empty inside other than like a dandelion seed wisp. What are they?
Can you send an image of the tree, it's leaves or the seed pod you mention?
This will help us with your question.
I have a large oak tree that has 'weed trees' growing under it. I've dug them up in the past, but they keep coming back. What is the best way to get rid of them and prevent them from coming back? Would placing sod under the tree help?
