The bed is in a shady area on the north side.
This wil take quite a bit of work and persistence, but this is something that can certainly be accomplished. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/foliage/moss/killing-moss.htm
Is this moss or something else?
This moss established itself and has spread so nicely over the years. Now I see patches of rust. I do have a puppy- are these urine burns? I want to save my moss Thanks!
Yes. I think you already have an idea of what the problem is here. You will just have to stop your dog from urinating on the lawn. It is being burned by ammonia from urine.
That will be the only way that it will recover.
how do I get rid of moss in vegetable garden?
Cool, wet weather favors moss growth. If this describes your spring, do nothing and let warmer weather take care of the moss. Moss can also signal poor air flow and crowded plants that don't let sunshine penetrate. Those you can fix by adjusting your gardening practices. There are chemicals which reduce moss but are not for use on veggie gardens. The following article has more detail: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/foliage/moss/killing-moss.htm
I have patches of this in my lawn. I want to propagate it for my kids play area since it's soft. Is this possible, will it take the traffic? How long would it take and is there anywhere I can buy it? No luck online so far. I'm in central Ohio in shady area.
I am developing a moss bed in a shaded moist area on the side of my house.
Don't take the bark off when you are removing the moss, it can open the tree's growing layer to a pathogen infection and wood decay.
15 dying. We have had plenty of rain. Looks like lots of little seeds on surface of spots. Help! I can send pictures I don't know how to upload photo but could send to I-phone.
Mosses need little if any fertilizer. In fact, fertilizer can burn moss while encouraging weeds. The pH of soil can also help or hinder mosses. Many species thrive in highly acidic soils (pH below 5.0), so by lowering the pH with powdered sulfur you can encourage mosses while discouraging weeds and lawn grasses that generally prefer a sweeter soil. For the most part, mosses will do best in a damp, shady location.
