My friend has a moon flower plant and gave me one of the seed pods. How do I plant this? Do I plant the pod as is or do I cut it open?

Each pod from the Moonflower contains 2 to 4 round seeds. Break open the pods and remove the seeds.
These seeds should be soaked for 24 hours before planting in 3" peat pots with a soilless mix.
Cover the seeds with 1/4" potting mix and water well, keep in a warm location.
You should have germination in 4 to 14 days if they seeds are viable.
Allow the seedling to grow until the roots emerge through the peat pods.
I planted some Moonflower Seed the first week in March. The vines are growing like crazy everywhere but I have yet to see a single bloom. What am I doing wrong?
Verify your growing conditions and care with the link below.
Make sure you have not over fertilized with too much nitrogen, as this will inhibit flowering.

Why doesn't your article mention that moon flowers are related to deadly nightshade and are poisonous?
Moonflowers or Datura are in the genus of vespertine vines, which belong to the Solanaceae family.
Yes, the Datura plant is considered a toxic plant, especially the seeds and flowers.
I will bring this suggestion to our Editors, thank you.
I planted my first moonflower this year and it is growing beautifully but it has no smell. Why? I have also marked the flowers so I can harvest the seeds but there are none. Can you help?
Moonflower is a common name used for a few plant species, but the most common is Ipomoea alba, a morning glory species, so I will assume that is what you have.
Sometimes flowers will lose their scent after they are rained on, but should develop a scent again soon. Also check the image at this site to make sure the plant you have really is Ipomoea alba, because ther flowers sold as moonflower may not have a scent:

The flowers should develop small pods after they wilt, which will eventually turn brown. If none appear, there may be a pollination problem.
I have three very pretty and heavily blooming Moonflowers in the house I just bought. I also have a dog who, despite my best efforts, treats the outdoors as his own personal salad bar. Are these plants dangerous to him? If I have to go to the trouble of moving them outside the fence line, I will. They have some chicken wire around the lowest parts, but now small plants are starting to grow outside that barrier. I try and watch him carefully, but I would like to know if this is a poisonous plant because then I just can't have it. Thank you in advance for your help with this matter. Nicole Cater
The CDC reports Moonflower, plant and seeds as poisonous.
It is also listed as toxic to dogs. Contact your vet if you pet ingests this plant or anything else they should not be eating.
What do the seeds look like?
By "moon plant" you probably mean moonflower plant. This plant has seeds growing in a spiky roundish pod.
There is a separate plant called moonseed with a seed that looks like a flat disc, almost like a full moon with a small piece missing.
My Moonflower seeds are all floating. Are they good to plant? Should I knick them? Should I knick them on the pointed top, or flatter bottom, or on the side of the seed?
This link will help you.
