My tree leaves are drying out and falling. I've watered, tree food, pest stuff, but it looks like it's dying. There is a bulge around the base of the trunk. What's happening? It's about 15 ft tall. Please help.
The bulge that your tree has at the base of the trunk is the graft point. The Japanese Maple is grafted unto the root stock of another more hardy type of tree.
This is normal and is not a disease or canker.
Dig down a few inches in the soil around the tree, if it is dry, your tree needs more water.
A deep watering is needed every couple of weeks in dry weather.
If a Japanese Maple Tree's roots dry out, the tree will die.
Make sure the mulch is pulled back away from the trunk of the tree.
Are the leaves yellowing or showing signs of disease? This is a way to help pinpoint the issues.
Yellowing leaves could indicate watering issues, fungus or pests.
Wilting of the tree can also be due to improper planting location. Full sun can cause this issue.
You can do the scratch test on the tree to determine if the tree has died.

I have had these trees for ten years and all of a sudden the leaves look like this. Can you help?
Thank you for the information about leaf scorch. These actually started as almost uniform beige dots on several of the leaves??
This appears to be Acer Leaf Scorch.

While on vacation, the women watering my plants outside missed a Japanese Maple in a pot on my side deck. It is not dead but some of the leaves have turned yellow. What can I do to save this plant? Should I prune the dead branches with the yellow leaves? Thank you
Check the branches to see if any have died off. If they snap off, those can be pruned away.
You can also do the bark scratch test.

Resume the care of your potted and tree and watch for recovery.

Just planted this spring. Have developed some white looking stuff on end branches. Not sure if these are new sprouts. Is this normal?
This is difficult to determine from your description.
You can upload an image so we can help you determine if your tree has an issue.
Inspect the tree for signs of pests or disease. Often times the leaves are the first indicators of an issue.

What's the best rooting hormone solution to root Japanese red maple cuttings? And when's the best time of year? Thank you!
you can take look on our website: https://gardensnursery.com
Take cuttings when the trees are actively growing.
Rooting hormone of any brand will work.
There is conflicting research on how successful starting Japanese Maple is with cuttings.
Seed and grafting are preferred by many as a propagation method.

My Japanese Acer has just died about half way up the stem of the tree. It is in a pot in a shaded area of my garden. I have tried finding out what is wrong with it but cannot find out why. It started out with growing around the centre of the trunk and then moved up and along the branches killing all the leaves on the way. Please help, have I lost my lovely acer?
Is the tree being adequately watered? Is the pot well draining? To dry can cause the browning and drying leaves, as well as if the roots are sitting in to much water. Soggy roots can lead to root rot.
This also could be fungus, so I would treat the tree with something like Neem Oil.
You also may want to move to a partial shade location and give it more sunlight.
Here are a few links to help you pinpoint the issue, but certainly start with water and sunlight.

I have a tree that is 30 years old. It has white bark, the Japanese maple leaves (serrated, 7 points). It is about 30 feet high, round in shape. The leaves are maroon and green, turn a burnt orange for a short time in the fall. I love it, my friend wants one, and I have no idea what type it is! It grew quickly, reached its size and has just remained so.
There are over 700 different Japanese Maple cultivators that are available to consumers.
It would be very difficult to give a specific name to your tree.
Do a Google search for a Japanese Maple grower and find a tree that meets the wants and needs of your friends garden.
