Hi For the past 2 weeks my lovely lawn has been massacred by thousands of black flys that after going on line they are Frit fly We have patches everywhere and we cannot go out as we will be covered How can I get rid of them please John Cook
The best solution is to increase the amount of plant coverage in the area. They prefer dry dirt, so anything to remove that will help, drastically.

I always have tons of ants in and on my hummingbird feeders. How can I keep them out?
I have used the petroleum jelly trick and it works pretty well, but you have to reapply when rain sloughs it off. It is said to work better if you suspend the feeder with fishing line and put the petroleum jelly just on the fishing line. You can also buy feeders with moats or make your own.

Snails seem to be surrounding the area they are in also.
They are galls, probably caused by insect damage. This article will help:

We have found some strange growths on the branches inside a bush in our garden. We have no idea what they are or what to do about them. They are the size of tennis balls. Thank you. Sara I have attached a photo of the bush and the growths
They appear to be galls. These are most often caused by insect.

I have a small greenhouse attached to our kitchen. There are tiny, fast moving ants in it in great quantities. Are they beneficial or harmful to the plants? The ivy has scales and the ants are all over it. Are they eating the scales? I can't tell. Thank You in advance, Virginia vadepintor@gmail.com
The ants are eating the sap that the scale is releasing from the plants. They are both very harmful to your plants. Ants will be easy to get rid of, but scale is another thing.
Scale will need to be removed, manually, and THEN treated with a pesticide. Simply treating, alone, will not kill them since they seal themselves to your plants.

of what they are. Can you identify them please? One of the two types of black bugs looks somewhat like an aphid, but I'm just not sure. I've searched all over the internet for the other bug and just can't find what it is. I want an organic solution to get rid of them, and for now I've done my research on neem oil and have been using that for the time being. Yet, nothing seems to get rid of these little pests in my garden. It also seems the slugs are chewing my stems and I've lost three plants so far! I need to stop them, and I just don't know how.
In the photos, one looks like a small cricket and the other looks like half a cricket.
