I used to garden until I moved into a condo. I’m in a house again and seeds look more like candy than seeds. What’s up?
They are likely coated with nutrients, or fungicide to make them germinate better.
This is common practice with modern seeds. You can still find uncoated seeds, though.

Raised bed with compost. Not using fertilizer.
There is, likely, too much nitrogen, and not enough phosphorus and potassium. Amending with sources of both will be the best course of action.

This plant started growing rapidly in my garden. I'm wondering what it is.
It's one of the host plants for the black swallowtail butterfly -- Queen Anne's lace. It can become invasive, so I would suggest cutting off the flowers as soon as they fade, before they go to seed.

A lady at a summer program showed my kid how to grow carrots in a cup of water but didn't explain what to do after it started sprouting ..so I researched this.Im confused at your article.. I have a carrot top in a cup of water. It is sprouting.. my kid is enjoying this, but are we actually growing carrots, or just enjoying watching the greenery?
