Bought some begonia pendulas early this year, thought I would try them in a hanging basket. I planted approx 8 bulbs (as I just had to use them all) in 15" diameter basket, and now I have this mess. One sprouted early and has taken over plus it has grown higher than I expected, Q1: can I cut this right back, as the main stem is about 15mm diameter, it is very overcrowded with foliage suffocating a couple of White Begonias in the centre, Q2: can I cut the foliage back, I also have some thin stems growing with an almost circular leaf that is flat I have looked but cannot see any other pictures like this, I have circled them, Q3: are they begonia leaves or do I have something else growing here? Thanks in anticipation Rob
Begonias tend to handle hard pruning quite well, actually. You could get away with trimming it up, but keep in mind that it will cause the plant to grow more "bushy" when you prune, though. If it is crowded, then you may consider removing some of the plants, altogether.
The other plant in question looks to be Nasturtium.

I have planted some plants in pots outside and they are not growing They are not dead but just not getting any bigger and not flowering Some are begonias There are lots of ants in the pots Could this be the cause If so how do I get rid of ants
Ants do tend to find their way into containers, quite often. Usually, they are looking for aphids to farm!

Not sure if my begonias are tuberous- I bought them from the local garden centre and they are now past their best. Do I remove them or wait to see what happens next year. They are bright red, orange and yellow. If they’re not tuberous will they survive until next year?
Most begonias can't survive cold weather, and Liverpool can experience a freeze some years. You need to overwinter any begonias you want to keep.
If you only anticipate a few days of below freezing weather, you can leave them outside and cover them well when inclement weather is predicted.
I am a amateur garden but try to put on a reasonable show every year. I have decided to try Begonia semperflorens 'Lotto Mixed' but am getting confusing answers about the planting distance by all suppliers who sell the plug plants. Before I purchase these plants (A) are they easy to plant in beds and(B) will the withstand a sunny position. Many thanks for your help
These are one of the easiest annuals to grow. They accept full sun to a shady location and will tolerate some drought. They grow about 1 foot in width so space accordingly.

I wintered begonia tubers and they are growing tall and stringy can I prune them to be fuller for summer?
Pinch off the tips and see if that helps. Also give them more light.
