Can you tell me what this bush is and why it won't flower? It's 10 years old and 8ft by 6ft.
Your bush is an hibiscus cultivar and the maroon flowers aren't fully opening. Correct? Well, you have Hibiscus syriacus "purpureus variegatus". It is primarily grown for its foliage and the flower buds will barely open. There is nothing you can do to change that. sorry
I have two beautiful plants (4"x 4") and don't want them to die in the winter. What should I do?
You should store hibiscus where it remains over 50 degrees for the best results, however, they can survive light frosts on occasion. When in doubt, bring them inside. How do I make Hibiscus Tea from flowers?
You can either start with dried flowers, or fresh. I prefer dry, though. Steep them in a tea ball or mesh as you would regular tea bags.
I have 3 braids and one braid died should I try to remove it or just let it go. The tree is in bloom and looks healthy
The dead trunk can be left in place, as long as it doesn't appear diseased or rotten. You can prune off the dead branches and foliage from above the braid. Since the rest of the tree looks healthy, there is probably no disease concern.
I have moved 2 container hibiscus plants to my flower bed. If I carefully cover when the temperature drops to 32 at night, will they survive? They are now about 36 inches tall and equal across.
This depends... There are hardy hibiscus, and tropical. If you have a hardy hibiscus, they pretty much survive everywhere. The tropical will not unless you bring them in. I would need to know more information.
I live in Michigan an have several hibiscus plants that have bloomed beautifully this summer. Should I cut the bushes back before freezing or wait till spring? Also is there anything else I need to do to ensure they survive the winter? Thank you
It would be a good idea to prune off any dead or dying growth, and deadhead any spent flowers. Here is an article with more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/hibiscus/
In one of your articles, you mentioned many hibiscus forms that are able to withstand zones 5 and below. I live in Klamath Falls, Oregon and I believe our zone is 6, could be 7. Where can you purchase those that you listed in your article that can handle cold(er) temperatures? Thank you for your response.
I can only recommend checking your local nurseries, and potentially ordering online.
In the meantime, here is an article on their care: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/hibiscus/outdoor-hibiscus-care.htm
