Is it poison to dogs? I don't know about the plant -- it is old.
I learned of a technique of putting all the cuttings into a black plastic bag and adding salt. Tie up the bag and when the contents are mushy they are not all dead. Dispose of in garbage.
The once-blooming wisteria vine now produces perhaps one or two blooms. The vine gets sun and is pruned in January. Can I add phosphorus now or do I need to wait until the Fall?
I would add this about 2 weeks before you expect flowers in your area. Really, though, as long as it isn't dormant you can add it at just about any time.

There is what I was told is a Wisteria on the old homestead we recently purchased. It's in the middle of the side yard and has spread to a massive size. I'd guess it's roughly 30 ft or more across. The majority of the branches are basically spread out at ground level and are very very thick. There are upward shoots within, but the bulk lies on the ground. How do I begin to bring this back to a manageable size? When should I do this? I don't want to kill the plant, but I also can't handle it in its current shape and size. It's swallowing most of that yard! Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I'll have more questions as the Belgian lady who lived there years ago was quite the gardening enthusiast. And I have a LOT to learn.
Wisteria: you either love it or you hate it. The blossoms smell divine but the plant is a monster. To keep it in check and to encourage flowering, it should be pruned twice a year. I have a 12 year old wisteria which has produced good numbers of blossom in recent years but which are engulfed by the green leaves. There is a nearbye specimen which has a magnificent show with virtually no leaf to hide the blossom. What am I doing wrong?
Wisteria needs pruning twice a year to trim back over-zealous growth. If you are already doing that, next look at how much, if any, fertilizer it gets. Higher nitrogen fertilizers encourage, in this case, excessive leafy growth. Below are links to articles on pruning and fertilizing wisteria. There are also YouTube videos on pruning.

My wisteria is beautiful . I am a novice gardener. It has grown new green shoots also . Should I cut them off?
It is not necessary to cut them off. That is very healthy, and well taken care of.
I moved into a home that had a well established Wisteria. I've been through two spring seasons and it has been full of greenery, but never bloomed with flowers. The previous owner told me she cut it back pretty heavily and to expect it to take a few years to flower. Would you agree with this? This April we had a late snow and now near the end of May it's just starting to show some green. I don't know if I should just let it go, or try to cut out what appears to not be dead? I can see some dried up looking buds, as if it were starting to bud before the snow. I'm not much of a gardener, but would like to keep it alive if I can. Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.
