How do I take care of a wisteria plant, which has been trimmed down?

Is it poison to dogs? I don’t know about the plant — it is old.

I learned of a technique of putting all the cuttings into a black plastic bag and adding salt. Tie up the bag and when the contents are mushy they are not all dead. Dispose of in garbage.
