Another thing that I recommend, if there is nothing else in the area that you are uncomfortable killing, is boiling water. Pouring this on a spot a couple of times per day, and doing this a couple of times for a week will kill off anything in the area. The soil will be left, completely, ready to use after treatment, unlike with chemical means.
The garden is being taken over by weeds and it doesn't grow the plants. What should I do?
There are many ways to get rid of weeds in the garden! Boiling water is one of my favorite methods. If there is nothing in the spot that you want to save, you can pour boiling water on the plot two times per day for a few days. This will kill any plants in the soil without harming the soil.

New England, when’s the best time to apply weed control(crabgrass)
A pre-emergent for crabgrass will be applied at this time. Since they are a warm season grass, it iw best to apply the season right before they start to grow.

herbicide, due to proximity of the water, so we chainsawed them last fall. Should I just keep cutting them down to the ground? May be rototill? I know that there is no method that will effectively eradicate them. What can I plant that they can't overrun?
Uh oh. This is a, fairly, aggressive issue that you face. This one may be more suited for your local agricultural extension service- They will be able to help you with a management routine that will not enter the water supply.

I live in Central Florida and weeds are a constant. Looking for the "Brutus" of weed killers. Backyard is all weeds, new home. I've already laid white rock for most of it but left some areas for wildflowers. I want to kill off the nasties and add pretties.
You can use sheet composting. This will kill the weeds by using a barrier of wet newspapers or cardboard, topped with a layer of compost, then a thick layer of mulch. In a few weeks the weeds should be dead.
Hi I have brick pavers right next to my grass bed and the grass grows into the pavers and between. How can I kill the grass between the pavers without affecting the lawn (where the grass is growing from)? Thanks in advance!
Boiling water! Pouring this on the area two or three times per day for a few days will take care of it without leaving any trace of toxins behind.
Here are some more ways to control the grass:
The weed has a very dense network of underground roots with hubs spreading new shoots. They are deep and strong tubers. I do not think it is couch grass as it has a distinct leaf with a rib up it’s middle. Could it be a variety of couch grass? I hope you can help me identify it. I have taken up most of my back lawn by digging it out. Thanks Catherine
