Another thing that I recommend, if there is nothing else in the area that you are uncomfortable killing, is boiling water. Pouring this on a spot a couple of times per day, and doing this a couple of times for a week will kill off anything in the area. The soil will be left, completely, ready to use after treatment, unlike with chemical means.
