Could this be fast growing and just appeared or more likely been there but not noticed?
Staghorns produce Spores, not unlike mushrooms, as do all ferns. This is what you are seeing. Sometimes they will propagate if the environment is right.
This article will give you more information on the care of these plants: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/foliage/staghorn-fern/staghorn-fern-information.htm
I was given a staghorn from Florida...it now resides in Pa until I can take it to Ca. It was overwatered to the point that it has been drowning...also the male part looks to be dead. There is a fresh shoot on it but I’m not sure if it is a pup. Some leaves have been removed and others have a “sunburn” look to the tips. What is the best way to attempt to resurrect my plant.
Here are some general care direcitions that should help:

My staghorn fern fell off the board on which it was mounted. It has no roots. Please tell me how I can keep it alive. Thank you!
Try wrapping the bottom of the fern in sphagnum moss and attaching it back to the wood. Care for it using instructions below:

Plant is a large round hanging staghorn. Its over 100lbs maybe 200. Its needs to come off the tree. Can I place that ball pf a plant on a classic iron plant stand and let it continue to grow in the air. It will be under trees. I dont want to hang something that large in Florida.
I think that would be fine. Because of its size, you may want to divide it.
Here is how:

Our staghorn fern lives outdoors in Southern California. It gets watered every 1-2 weeks. Sometimes I will put it out to receive rain water. The bottom fronds are curled and browned. The frond on the far right has light brown freckling. There are no new green shield fronds, only new Antler fronds. Thank you in advance!
It is possible that it does not have enough humidity. This article will help with the care of the plant: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/foliage/staghorn-fern/staghorn-fern-information.htm
The 'fronds' are cut into small (1-3 cms) lengths and dragged to the centre of the rosette where they are fixed with a kind of web. A sawdust is deposited around the middle of the rosette, I am presuming this is the 'remains' of the fronds and the insect has taken what it needs into the space behind the rosette leaves. Some of my plants are to large to remove from the tree on which they are growing which rules out soaking in an insecticide mix. I hope you can help. Regards, Ron Aitken
This looks like ant damage. Some ants will make nests like the one that you are seeing here!
I will recommend some methods of organic pest control:
