When should I harvest my cushaw squash. I planted one seed in my garden for kicks for my three little boys. Never dreamed it would actually produce! There is one squash on the vine that is ENORMOUS! Didnt know if I should just leave it on the vine or if it would start to rot if I left it too long. Thanks!
Pumpkins can be harvested as soon as the stem begins to dry and the skin becomes too hard to pierce with a fingernail. Because cold weather can damage pumpkins, they should be harvested before the first frost.
I have 2 plants near each other. It has set fruit. The first on was about 8 inches then the end turned brown 2/3 of the way eventually soft. Removed it. My neighbor had same problem with thin smaller ones. Hers on the ground. Mine are on a trellis not touching ground. What is wrong? What to do? Thank you. Bobbi. I didn't think to take a picture
This sounds like Blossom End Rot, which is caused by a Calcium deficiency.
I have huge plants with lots of flowering happening but no fruit yet. It has been around 3 months. The plant is healthy and growing rapidly but no fruit. What can i do?
Male blossoms are the first to appear on your plant, then the female flowers form and these are the flowers that form your fruit.
You can try hand pollinating the flowers.

What is the cause of the leaves of my squash and cucumber plantsvyellowing. On one plant the zucchini is shriveling up or falling off before it is even 3 inches long. What is causing this? We have had a lot of sun and I have been able to water at least every other day.

I'm growing Bush Delicata squash in a large pot on my balcony. I don't have enough space to have more than one squash plant. I'm familiar with hand pollinating techniques (read the article on this site) but the plant almost never has both female and male flowers at the same time. I managed to pollinate a couple but at least 10 females didn't get pollinated and grow fruit. My question is this: if I cut off a male flower just after it has opened and then store it carefully in a plastic bag (say in the fridge), how long might the pollen remain viable while I wait for a female flower to open? Or is this a ridiculous idea? Thank you.
Really great question!
You can store pollen in the refrigerator for a few days. Tap the pollen into a clean container and cover. Then brush onto the female flowers as they appear.
It's worth a try!
I have big plants that are flowering but not producing a vegetable. They have these little beige mothlike bugs all over them. Is this the cause and how do I get rid of the bugs? The plants a yelling and shrivelling up like they are not getting enough water but I know that water is not an issue.
Certainly pests or disease will inhibit good growth in plants and can effect blossoming, pollination and vegetable development.
Treat the pests with Neem Oil.
Make sure your not over fertilizing or a soil test can help you determine if you have excess nitrogen in the soil. Excess nitrogen will inhibit flowering and formation of fruit and vegetable.

My pumpkins squash and cucumber leaves are dying and have developed a fungus I believe according to your website. Should I or can I harvest what I have or does it need to be destroyed? Do I need to remove the plants from the garden? Thanks so much for your help!
It would depend on the type of fungus that your plants are infected with.
Powdery Mildew can be treated.
