They were beautiful at first, then they just started to die. What could be the problem? I water the garden properly and I have use Miracle Grow once this year on my garden. Everything else is going great except the squash and zucchini. They were beautiful plants producing great then suddenly rotting at the roots. Do you have any idea that might help me? Thank you.
Squash and zucchini like well drained soil. Planting them in hills reduces the chance of rotting.
How do you keep squash beetles from your garden?
Squash bugs are particularly difficult to get rid of but as long as you've identified them early, you've got a fighting chance. This article explains how: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/insects/squash-bug-control.htm

My garden is always crazy with wild squash. I don't ever remember planting it. I almost suspect it came from the free compost in new Berlin. I always have some left over at the end of the season and compost it. This could be a source of many additional seeds for next year. This stuff appears cross pollinated between spaghetti and acorn, and every sharp color in between. Some even looks like watermelon. Any thoughts to where it came from? Not sure about the compost. It grows so well in my cruddy West Allis clay. I actually had to quarantine it to its own separate area because it TAKES over! Any suggestions? Hints? It's wonderful to eat when it's young. The shell, seeds and all. When it's young, all is wonderful and tender. I am the squash king.
The compost is your most likely source of your mystery plant.
If this is a delicious variety, you can save seeds. The seeds still may then not grow true to your original plant.
They fall off prematurely. I get up every morning and water with a soaker hose for 15 to 30 minutes. I see the bees doing their job and I have bought a calcium spray that I use once a week and I fertilize once a week. What else would cause my squash and cukes to turn yellow and fall off?

Zucchini and yellow squash grow about 2" and then stop. Everything else seems to be in order according to your article.
This may be a pollination issue.

I planted my squash next to my cabbage. My squash is not doing good. Is it because it's next to the cabbage?
I wouldn't think that your squash is suffering because of being next to your cabbage. There are a limited number of reasons your squash may not be happy. This article provides a short list of problems along with how to correct them:

When squash and melons start to run, they have little curly stems that attach to the grass or ground. Do these supply nutrients to the plant or are they just to keep the runners from moving around or blown away from wind or hard rain? I ask this cause I am trying black plastic for weed prevention. Thank you.
The tendrils keep connect the plant to either the ground or it's support system. Do not try to pull tendrils away if they have attached themselves, you could damage the vines.
You certainly can use a garden covering to help retain moisture and hold down weeds. I would look for products that are made for the garden.
