When its best time?
You can deadhead spent blooms after flowering but actual pruning should be done when the plant is dormant. This article will help https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/rhododendron/pruning-rhododendrons.htm
I want to buy some evergreen 3 season blooming plants. If they are dwarf size do they need cutting back in fall?
Pruning and trimming would be the same for full size or dwarf varieties.

I have a rhodo that blooms in the spring and in the fall. I know that it should be pruned after it blooms, but which bloom?
Monrovia.com says to prune (and fertilize) after the spring bloom.
G'Day! Thanks for taking my question. I need help with pruning my rhododendrons. First, I did read your website but I have a special circumstance and I don't want to touch these plants until I am sure what to do. I purchased a semi-wooded property in June (2016). Around the property there are about 20 large rhododendrons. When I say "large", I mean 20'+ tall. The previous owner never did anything with these guys except enjoy them and the property was vacant for 3 years prior to our purchase. Some of the plants are encroaching upon the driveway and scrape vehicles. They need to be trimmed, pruned, cut back or whatever you call it. How do I prune them so I don't interfere with next Spring's flowers AND so I don't make the plant look "bare" on that side? Also, for the plants not along the driveway, when is best time to remove dead branches off the bottoms without hurting the plant? I'd love to hear your suggestions! luannsoul@hotmail.com

I bought a few rhododendrons and planted them just after they'd finished flowering in june/july, they were dead headed . They look very healthy fed twice a month with diluted ericaceous liquid. My question is the buds on the end of the storks look like there ready to burst open is this normal. Thankyou Douglas
You could certainly have an Encore Azalea, which produces a 2nd flush of flowers.
Hi! I have given my Rodadendron some sequestered iron a couple of times this year, and some vine weed killer. At separate times of course. But, it is still showing yellowing branches and leaves under the cover of other normal leaves. We are now in early September, and there is a light chill in the mornings. The last time I gave it some sequester iron was about 6 weeks ago. Should I give some more or leave it alone now as it approaches it dormant period? Thanks
I wouldn't advise giving it much in the way of nutrients as it approaches dormancy. It also sounds like a pH issue is showing itself. dolomitic lime acts as a buffer, along with giving it a boost of calcium and magnesium. I would put some of this on it.
