can rhododendrons be trained to grow upward by staking them and tying them. i have some that just want to sprawl along the ground and have little height to them.
It is difficult to compete with a plants natural growth habit.

Deer ate all the leaves off of my Rhododendron during the winter. I have since relocated them to a fenced in area. Will the leaves grow back.
Light pruning is required and also a heavy mulch to cover the root ball from the heat if there are no leaves shading it. If the plant is too large prune one side at a time. I mean prune in the spring one side and in the fall another side. The plant will not do well with heavy pruning.
