We live in Townsville Nth Qld. Something has attacked our Paw Paw causing the trunk to be deformed. New growth is now fine. Would like to know what would have caused this and how to avoid in the future.
It looks like an insect tunneled inside. I did extensive research and could not find the cause of this deformity. I suggest reaching out to an arborist to find out what would cause such a thing.
Followed instruction after eating pawpaw and decided to try to grow the seeds surprised they germinated. Now 2cm tall what do I do now to cultivate these further please
Did they get their cold period? Read more:

Hi, I have a pawpaw sucker that I have har in a glass of water since memorial day. Friend gave it to me...about 18" tall, when got it all leaves were shrivled but trunk still green so I figured I'd give it a shot. A little while ago this sucker popped out underwater and has grown to the surface and is on second set of leaflets. A second shoot is now also about to surface and follow suite. Problem is there are no visible roots yet and not sure if they are growing in the parent trunk or what, but nothing is visible. Question how and when can I put it in soil? I know they are hard to propagate so I don't want to kill it and it's happy in the glass on the window sill for now. Thanks, Todd
You will want to keep that water clean! That will be the first step in rooting it. These articles will help:

In the article growing paw-paw in pots. The introduction says that paw-paw are not generally available in grocery stores because they are too delicate to transport. I live in Australia and buy paw-paw every week at Aldi. They are green and take 5 to 6 days to ripen. Most are transported from inter-state and survive quite well without any damage. My question is why can't they be transported whilst green and not ripe, seems like people are missing out on a beautiful fruit?
That would be a very long and rough journey over here to The States. At that rate, we would have to look at it as a cost vs reward issue. However, in most of our states, we can have them fresh from our own trees!
It has a bunch of pawpaws growing and the new/young leaves look healthy but older leaves further down the line have rust spots on their leaves? It doesn’t seem to have any black spots underneath the leaf at all but wondering if it is a fungus and will spread as the pawpaw tree next to it has dropped all its leaves and only produces young leaves which shrivel not too long after opening. Any help with either of these would be great!
Unfortunately, this looks to be another example of Pestalotiopsis. Other than previously mentioned, I can offer articles of the care of your tree in the meantime:
