We just planted monkey grass as a border for flower bed. The stems of the monkey grass are turning brown. Do I cut this off or leave it? Is this normal?
Yes, this is fairly normal as it adjusts to its new surroundings. But don't worry, these plants are extremely tough and trimming off some of the foliage will help rejuvenate them. I am having my yard completely redone. I have two large active dogs and the landscaper has recommended monkey grass for the entire yard. The yard is part shade/part sunny and in Missouri, Zone 5, I believe. Is this a safe grass for the dogs?
The grass itself should not pose any threat to your dogs; however, the berries are mildly poisonous, more so with pups. Typically, upset stomach is most often experienced. You can remedy this simply by pulling the blooms or mowing to prevent the berries from forming.
My monkey grass is spreading rapidly and I find it extremely difficult to dig up. I want to reduce the width of it by half. Is there a garden tool that can be used for this purpose?
Unfortunately, your only option here is to use a shovel and dig it up. However, if you want to get rid of the plant, most common weed killers will kill monkey grass.
When can I plant the little purple looking seeds that come off of monkey grass?
First of all, the ripe, purple looking berries should be allowed to dry out thoroughly before taking out the seeds. Then they can be sown in early spring or fall.
I have a nice stand of monkey grass along the drive, but other weeds have come into the mix. Can I spray a chemical to get rid of the weeds and keep the money grass? I need something that will not kill the monkey grass, but eliminate the trash.
If most of them are a broad leaf weed (like dandelions), you can use a broad leaf spectrum weed killer (it will be labeled as that).
If the weeds are grass like, they will need to be hand pulled as a grass specific weed killer will also kill the monkey grass.

I want to know what to plant on a 75-degree embankment at driveway. I have monkey grass, is that a good ground covering? I live in Helen, GA. The dirt is rocky and dry.
Here are some good suggestions:
