I just moved in my home and I got 100 sq meter area which is covered with stones which you find on railway tracks.under these stones is a plastic sheet .I have tried digging under these stones and found slay soil.I want lawn growing in this area been advised to put 6 inch of top soil over it .I am not sure if grass will grow over these stones please advice. Kind regards
It would be best if you could rake out the rocks and plastic sheeting. If that is not an option, then covering the rocks with at least six inches of topsoil should take care of the problem. Here is more:

tried planting lawn from seed twice and nothing comes up where the tree shreddings were left to rot. Is it the soil pH ?
I would definitely take some soil samples and get them tested. You may be able to fix those areas. Here are articles about soil testing:

My lawn has dozens of weeds, mainly dandilions. I am trying to kill them with a contact weed killer gel and I have a tool to lift them out. The tool works but then leaves a narrow deep hole. Do I leave them or fill them in, and if so, what do I use? John Innes or would ordinary compost from the garden centre do? Thanks
You could just rake some topsoil or ordinary compost across the holes to fill in.
Milky spore powder: Do I only spread the milky spore powder on the lawn or do I do it in the Rosegarden as well? Should I use the product now or wait until the fall? Thank you
The powder should not harm your roses. My research says that milky spore powder is safe in vegetable gardens so, if you feel you're having infestation of Japanese beetles there or in your lawn, or anywhere else, it's safe to go ahead and use the powder throughout summer and early fall.

I have a small garden about 7 meters long it is all weed no grass and not level. I would like to know what is the best, easiest, and cheapest way to take the weeds off and level the garden ready for grass seeding and would seeding the lawn be the best option.
If you have the time, the easiest and cheapest method would be to solarize the soil by covering it with clear plastic and leaving it for six weeks during the hottest part of the summer. That should kill weeds as well as disease organisms.
Then you can level the soil with purchased topsoil from the garden center or a bulk dirt store.
If you don't have the time, you can kill the weeds with a product containing glyphosate. Read and follow all label instructions.
Grass seed would be an inexpensive option to seed the lawn, but you must take care of it with proper watering, etc.
