Where can I buy the red and pink varieties of Cestrum? Where can I buy the Chinese Inkberry or "white chocolate" plant? Where can I buy Arabic jasmine? Poet's jasmine?
I would recommend making inquiries with your local nurseries and home and garden stores. You could also try googling for these varieties on http://www.google.com.
We want know how to tell if our plant is well or dying. It's all brown to it's base and we don't see any new growth after this winter. So is it too soon to see new growth or should we pull it and get a new one every year
Unless you have winter Jasmine, these will only survive in zones 9, and 10 which are pretty much tropical. If this is not a winter type, then it will have to be replaced every year. If this is a winter variety, then it should come back about now. Break a stem until you reach any green at all. If there is none, then the plant is likely dead.
This looks like the work of caterpillars or even possible webworms.

I have confederate jasmine -- it is beautiful and healthy and I'm super pleased with it. My sister loves it too and wanted some clippings, so I did everything I thought I was supposed to do, but my clippings are all turning brown. Are they supposed to do that? I used fresh growth, 6-8 inches long, removed lower leaves, used rooting compound, good potting soil, they have been misted a few times daily so they're moist but not soaked, they are on a shaded area of my patio. I have propagated other plants in this way and haven't ever had anything turn brown and look like it was dead.
I wouldn't use potting soil, since most contain quite a bit of nutrients. This will burn sensitive newly forming roots. I recommend trying again, or putting those cuttings for a second chance into some seedling mix, moss, or any other media with little to no nutrients. This will get you much better results in the future.
I really like to purchase one or more Jasmine house plants, but I don’t know which ones are best and most fragrant. And I am so afraid of killing it, it would really upset me, I am a true plant lover, and I value and tale very good care of all my plants. Please advise if you can, thanks. Respectfully, DAISY
If you are growing this indoors, it will not matter which variety you choose. You can find something in your local nurseries, or you can look online for most fragrant varieties. Dear Ladies and Gentlemen: One of my Syrian colleagues misses Jasmine that grows in Damascus and trying to transplant in in Canada did not work well. What is the type of Jasmine that grows in Damascus (the technical name or strain) and is there a way to grow it in Canada? Any help or insight would be appreciated. Christopher Baxter
Dear Christopher,
That’s kind of you trying to help your colleagues with their nostalgia for Jasmine.
I’m Mediterranean myself from North Africa and lived in Louisiana for 13 years. In my Louisiana house I had the same kind of jasmine that I use to see in my coastal city in Algeria.
It is called Star Jasmine - Trachelospermum jasminoides
It smells like haven around sunset. Maybe you will be able to order online or you will find it in local nurseries. I hope I was able to help.
Good luck
Dija
It was thriving in the porch last summer and through to Feb/March when leaves started going pale in patches then yellowing. Even the new growth is now showing pale patches. I don't think I'm over/under-watering so what could be? No sign of any bugs etc.
I see what looks to be calcium, and magnesium deficiencies. DOLOMITIC lime will be the best bet here. This and an amendment of, either, compost, or an all purpose fertilizer will be of quite a bit of help, at least once per year, and up to three.
If it is a liquid fertilizer, then feed once every 1 or 2 months, following all instructions on the package.
This article will give you more information on their care: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/jessamine-plants/night-blooming-jasmine-care.htm
I potted it into ericaceous compost a few months ago but still losing leaves - so should I add some dolomitic lime too? Thanks so much for your help.
