Q.Question: Jasmine

Zone Ottawa, Canada | Anonymous added on April 23, 2019 | Answered

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:

One of my Syrian colleagues misses Jasmine that grows in Damascus and trying to transplant in in Canada did not work well. What is the type of Jasmine that grows in Damascus (the technical name or strain) and is there a way to grow it in Canada?

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Dear Christopher,

That’s kind of you trying to help your colleagues with their nostalgia for Jasmine.
I’m Mediterranean myself from North Africa and lived in Louisiana for 13 years. In my Louisiana house I had the same kind of jasmine that I use to see in my coastal city in Algeria.
It is called Star Jasmine - Trachelospermum jasminoides
It smells like haven around sunset. Maybe you will be able to order online or you will find it in local nurseries. I hope I was able to help.
Good luck
Dija
