I bought a ACER PALMATUM DISSECTUM 'VIRIDIS last year - it is still in pot and sprouted a abundance beautiful green leaves - which have now all shrivelled up and died. I notice that at the base of the trunk is brown, whereas the rest of it is green. It has been very hot here in Newcastle, so I moved it to a shady spot once I noticed the shrivelled leaves. Is it dying ? See photos of before and after
It doesn't look very happy. Getting it into the ground or a larger container would help. I hope the info in these articles will help:

Hello, I am Zone 6a and we have a young Japanese maple that has a rather large sucker. We were going to move the tree as it is a bad location and also want to remove the sucker as it is not shaped well and is green. Should I move it and then remove the sucker before winter? Or should I just do both now?
I would remove the sucker, now, then move the tree during dormancy. Japanese Maples do not really like to be moved, so doing so when they bare "asleep" for the year can keep from harming them too much.
Keep all suckers removed, and treat with a mild fungicide, just in case.

We planted this tree about 7 years ago. Should we prune back the branches with no leaves or leave them alone? Could there be an infection of some type causing this? We are in southern Ontario (Canada).
Yes, always prune out branches that look damaged, diseased or die back. This article will help:

I have a Coral Bark Japanese with long buggy whip limbs. How should I prune it?
Unfortunately, your photo did not come through. I am unable to see the issue at hand.
It could be that the tree is lacking light if the branches are too stretchy. Ultimately, if the issue causing it is not fixed, then it will likely return. Once you figure out what is causing the branches to elongate, then pruning can be done. Just don't take off more than 1/3 of the tree at once, or you may see the rootstock take over and kill off the top scion of the tree.
