Q.I Think My Acer Might Be Dying

I bought a ACER PALMATUM DISSECTUM ‘VIRIDIS last year – it is still in pot and sprouted a abundance beautiful green leaves – which have now all shrivelled up and died. I notice that at the base of the trunk is brown, whereas the rest of it is green. It has been very hot here in Newcastle, so I moved it to a shady spot once I noticed the shrivelled leaves. Is it dying ? See photos of before and after

It doesn't look very happy. Getting it into the ground or a larger container would help. I hope the info in these articles will help:

OK
